2011 Golden Globes Best and Worst Dressed

Surprise, surprise: Glee took home another award! The stage was loaded and the smiles were huge--Lea Michele turned heads on the red carpet.  Best and Worst Dressed at the 2011 Golden Globes

Felix Mercado, celebrity style expert and president and owner of Say it With STYLE, gave his feed back on the hot gowns and hot messes on the red carpet Sunday night.

There were several trends that were easily noticed during last night's Golden Globe Awards. The biggest ones that caught my eye? Lots of nude dresses and a plethora of emerald green dresses. I was drooling over Lea Michele subdued pink Oscar de la Renta because it was anything but boring with its ruffles and layers. I was also pleasantly surprised by Eva Longoria's black Zac Posen dress.

Mila Kunis also got green in a Vera Wang. Emerald green may not be my favorite color, but all three ladies looked stunning.
Luckily for me, a couple of the ladies did bring the sparkle and one of my favorites was Olivia Wilde who wore a glittery black Marchesa dress. Carrie Underwood also looked beautiful in her sparkly nude Badgley Mischka.
Who do you think was the best dressed of the evening?

Teresa Scanlan as Miss America 2011

After the swimsuit, evening gown, talent and interview competitions, there was one woman left standing to inherit the crown from Miss America 2010 Caressa Cameron.

The winner was announced on Saturday evening at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Scanlan beat 52 other young women from across the United States.

The young Nebraskan played "White Water Chopped Sticks" on the piano in the talent portion of the competition. Along with the title of Miss America 2011, Scanlan won a $50,000 scholarship. Scanlan, who recently graduated from high school, will study at Patrick Henry College. The Miss America Organization provides young women with a vehicle to further their personal and professional goals, and instills a spirit of community service through a variety of nationwide community-based programs, according to the organization’s website.

The Miss America pageant has been around for 90 years, but a Miss Nebraska had never won the title -- until last night when Teresa Scanlan was announced Miss America 2011.

At 17, Scanlan is also the youngest Miss America since Margaret Gorman, the pageant's first winner, won at the age of 16 way back in 1921.

Scanlan showed her confidence early on in the program. Producers invited past winners to participate in the show's 90th contest. George, celebrating the 30th anniversary of her win, presented roses to Scanlan after her name was read as the winner.

Pageant judges included Joy Behar ('The View'), Marc Cherry (creator/executive producer, 'Desperate Housewives'), Marilu Henner ('Taxi') and Tony Dovolani ('Dancing With the Stars.') Joy: All seem nice. I'm the one bitchy from food deprivation.

Burke could easily win next year's Miss America since she has a habit of winning and hosting live shows on ABC.

2011 Golden Globes Fashion Predictions

We've worked out who'll sink and swim at this year's Golden Globes based on their fashion past--Drew Barrymore and Sandra Bullock who got our tick of approval for their 2009 and 2010 efforts.

The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards are but a flutter of a false eyelash and primping of a bow-tie away.
This year’s bash, honoring the best in film and television for 2010, will be hosted by British comic Ricky Gervais--Luckily, by the time Oscars gets here, I’ve had more time to fill in some of the gaps after Golden Globes.”

What is the weirdest thing you have seen on the Red Carpet?
“The last celebrity who made me feel star struck is Al Pacino. Do you do any special preparation regarding FASHION for the Red Carpet?

Angelina Jolie: Jolie is always one to watch, solely based on the fact that she is Angelina Jolie. Whether it's an unexpected dress detail, those unforgettable emerald earrings from the 2009 Academy Awards, or just her stunning lips painted red, she's a dazzler every time.

January Jones: Like her stylish Mad Men character, Betty Draper, Jones is often topping the best-dressed lists. Olivia Wilde: A versatile fashion fave, Wilde is a red carpet chameleon. Blake Lively: One thing's for sure: When this Gossip Girl star steps on to the red carpet, she's going to look red hot -- probably in some kind of boldly-colored, figure-hugging dress. Known for showing off her best assets, Lively is a prime reason men pretend to care about red carpet fashion coverage. Leighton Meester: While Lively is va-va-voom, her Gossip Girl co-star usually embraces edgier looks that would be eschewed by Blair, the conservative character Meester plays on the show. Carey Mulligan: Whether she's showing off her personable shoe collection or letting a dress take center stage, Mulligan enjoys making a fashion statement. Julianna Margulies: Nominee and The Good Wife star Margulies loves a black dress on the red carpet, and she usually pulls it off smashingly. Sofia Vergara: Modern Family scores a double whammy at awards programs. Lea Michele: Any dazzling that Michele does on Glee is eclipsed by her smart sense of style on the red carpet.

2011 Miss America Pageant will be a record-breaking affair today

Producers of ABC’s live 90th Anniversary Miss America Pageant broadcast tomorrow night are aiming to somehow top last night’s incredible third and final preliminary competition. Yesterday’s luncheon lineup at Neiman Marcus at Fashion Show and the onstage parade included 1989 Miss America Gretchen Carlson of Fox & Friends and my longtime friend 1976 Miss America Tawny Godin, who was Regis Philbin’s TV sidekick long before Kathie Lee Gifford and Kelly Ripa! Phyllis George, the 1979 Miss America, arrives this morning after being delayed in Atlanta due to a heavy blizzard.
To celebrate 90 amazing years, the 2011 Miss America Pageant will be a record-breaking affair today ahead of ABC’s live broadcast tomorrow night from Planet Hollywood’s Theater for the Performing Arts.
It is one extraordinary day, from celebrity judges and the 2011 co-host stars to the largest gathering of Miss Americas to executives from the Miss America Organization and ABC to the return of a beloved tradition -- the Miss America Parade.
I’ll also introduce all 46 of the Miss Americas who have flown in for the parade and tomorrow’s telecast.
To add to the festivities, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority officials will be on hand to read Mayor Oscar Goodman’s official proclamation declaring Jan. 15, 2011, “Miss America Day” in Las Vegas.
Keep checking back right here at VegasDeLuxe.com for continuing news, photo and video coverage, and also check out the 2011 Miss America section at LasVegasSun.com.
here she is, Miss America. America loves a comeback story," Sam Haskell, chairman of the Miss America Organization, told AOL News. It's been many years since a Miss America became a household name -- quick, name last year's winner! The public's attention has turned toward the competing Miss USA pageant--ABC dumped Miss America after the 2005 pageant, so the show moved first to CMT and then to TLC and from downtrodden Atlantic City to glitzy Las Vegas.

"You're always telling people the difference between Miss USA and Miss America," admitted Miss America 2000 Heather French Henry of Kentucky, who spent the past decade lobbying Congress for more funding for homeless war veterans. "We're a nonprofit organization dedicated to scholarship and they're not. The pageants flailed on CMT but enjoyed an uptick over the past three years on TLC thanks in part to a six-episode reality show that aired about the contestants in the weeks leading up to the pageant.

ABC then agreed to a new three-year deal, Haskell said, and the reality show was no longer necessary--DWTS winner/host Brooke Burke and "The Bachelor" Chris Harrison are hosting.

"We talked about current events, and she primed me for the interview part of the pageant," said Bulkley, a Scottsdale, Ariz., native who attends the University of Arizona in Tucson. The Bulkley-Giffords interaction is typical of Miss America contestants, who frequently get to contact local leaders. That, again, is more proof that Miss America is a more serious event than Miss USA, Haskell said.

"Sure there are beautiful girls in our program, but it's all about education, scholarship and talent," he said. Miss USA is beautiful girls, period."

"Look at the amount of times Miss America is referenced on TV shows. I've never heard a little girl say, 'When I grow up, I want to be Miss USA.'"

Fashion Week is gearing up to provide a platform for mass retailers

As Islamabad Fashion Week is gearing up to provide a platform for mass retailers and clothing manufacturers to come to the fore, niche high fashion store Labels has already set the precedent and collaborated with Lawrencepur and Fashion Wear to co-produce a pret line.

“Labels had started off as a knit wear line. We need to connect with our large scale fabric manufacturers to take the business of fashion forward, said Zahir Rahimtoola of Labels speaking on the prudence of his store’s alliance.

Utilising Labels’ design sensibilities and its customer power, such a collaboration is an ingenious fashion alliance whereby a main stream fashion house benefits from the production power of a large scale manufacturer. The knit wear manufacturers, Fashion Wear, have been the licensed manufacturers for global fashion brands like Ralph Lauren, Disney, Wrangler, Reebok and Kenneth Cole yet instead of opening their own retail store ala Stoneage, CrossRoads and Outfitters, they have opted to stock with Labels and Studio S.
“We are taking a bit of the back door approach and creating different designs for each store and working along with their own design teams to offer diversified products,” explained Amir Butt, the Director for Marketing at Fashion Wear.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Chief Executive Arshad Siddiqui of the event organising company Triple E said, “Islamabad Fashion Week (IFW), that begins on January 27 and ends on January 30, will primarily be a trade related event through which we plan to promote the Pret industry of the country.”

Siddiqui further said that the previously held fashion weeks only gave the “fashion designers a platform to promote their designs but it’s the retailers who haven’t participated in any such event. Fashion critics have been stressing for a while now that the fashion weeks need to rope in the larger mass-scale retailers to promote the business of fashion. Amin believes that IFW will be different from the conventional fashion shows, “What is Pret? It is a prime event to attract the foreign buyers. For instance, the textile, leather and modelling industry.”

2011 Miss America Pageant at Planet Hollywood on Jan

The first night of preliminary competition in the 2011 Miss America Pageant at Planet Hollywood on Jan. 11, 2011.

Miss America Pageant officials revealed yesterday that they were far from happy with last year’s reality TV series, but admitted that it renewed interest in the aging pageant and helped get it back on national network TV.

“We may not have liked that reality show. The 90th anniversary pageant is live from Planet Hollywood this Saturday night. Six years ago, before we moved out of Atlantic City to Las Vegas, the Miss America crown had become tarnished. The jewel no longer sparkled. We love Las Vegas, and we love being at Planet Hollywood. It’s really a great relationship that’s worked really well.” Sam promised that this year’s telecast will be hip, younger and even more relevant. The future of Miss America depended on that. Two giant video screens flank the stage to show stills of olden day swimsuit and evening gown competitions at the same time as live shots of this year’s contestants strut their stuff.

“We have big production numbers this year,” Sam continued. Sam addressed the diversity of this year’s judges, from sassy comedienne Joy Behar to actress Marilu Henner to Desperate Housewives creator and producer Marc Cherry and Dancing With the Stars professional dancer Tony Dovolani. Onstage last night for the first time in front of a crowded theater, the ladies looked glam in sparkling short cocktail outfits, sexy black bikinis and elegant gowns. The opening dance number is hot and fun with Rockettes precision. Record producer David Foster should race here to sign them.

The other scholarship winner was Miss Hawaii Jalee Fuselier for the swimsuit fitness portion. ur Miss Nevada Cris Crotz had the last words: “I love the fact that Miss America is staying put in Las Vegas. Miss America is the absolute elite of all pageants. It’s cool, hip, classy and not the typical girls associated with other pageants.

The milestone 90th Anniversary Miss America Pageant receives a very special recognition Friday as 46 previous winners join this year’s 53 contestants to resume a long-ago beloved tradition

Our Merry Mayor of Mirth Oscar Goodman has proclaimed Saturday as “Miss America Day” in Las Vegas. Cathy Tull, vice president of marketing at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, will this Friday read the proclamation, which encourages all “citizens of Las Vegas to welcome the participants and organizers of this fabulous event to our fine city.”

It’s been renamed the DSW Show Us Your Shoes Parade recognizing Designer Shoe Warehouse as the title sponsor of the ABC live telecast Saturday from Planet Hollywood’s Theater for the Performing Arts.

A total of 99 elegant ladies -- 53 contestants and 46 Miss Americas -- will walk the state-themed parade of shoes -- from peanut-covered shoes from Miss Georgia to the Hollywood signed adorning Miss California’s feet to a couture tomato costume worn by Miss New Jersey -- that starts at noon Friday at the Paris.

Perhaps the most compelling competitor this year will be Miss Delaware, Kayla Martell, who suffers from alopecia areata, a condition that causes people afflicted to lose much of their hair.
Miss Jaclyn and her never-ending legs bring the sunshine as she hopes to bring home the crown to the sunshine state
While gentleman may prefer blonds are next contestant is a stunning brunette.  Those island gals always have an advantage in the bikini comp.  She was named the preliminary winner and received a $1,ooo college scholarship

Good luck to all the girls looking to be crowned Miss America 2011
